Description

Set during WW II, young Cowboy lives on a farm in Salmon Arm and when some Japanese-Canadians move into the area to work he falls in love with Toshiko. Due to the bombing of Pearl Harbour there is fear and anger against the Japanese, and the two flee to Vancouver. They are eventually caught and their lives take very separate paths--Cowboy enlists and Toshiko is taken away. This engaging graphic novel, suitable for grades 10-12, accurately depicts the resentment and fear felt by Caucasians towards the Japanese. The graphic novel format makes it useful for students who struggle with reading. +Read More...
