Resource Description

This collection of recorded and livestream presentations is designed for teachers to bring live, interactive programmes into the classroom. These virtual field trips provide access to subject experts, and during livestream sessions students may ask authentic, real-time questions of the presenter. The webinars can be used with entire classes or teachers can provide access to students for use in an inquiry project or to preview a lesson or review a missed lesson. Some presentations include links to lesson plans, pre-activities, handouts, and resources. Due to the variability in the visual appeal of the presentations teachers may wish to preview the pre-recorded presentations to ensure quality and content.

The webinars can be viewed live or as recorded presentations. The presentations are around 45 minutes and participants can ask questions to the speakers via a messenger tool.

SOCIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Some of the events are live; therefore, things may be said off script that may be inappropriate to some students. The pre-recorded sessions are attended by a member of Live Learning. Since most programs run more than once, the editors will publish the best presentation from a delivery standpoint.

SUGGESTED CLASSROOM USAGE

Comments:
This site can be used as a virtual field trip to access content experts around North America. The format is similar to a human library as the emphasis is on the personal perspectives of the speakers rather than the academic content they are sharing. The webinars could be used in an inquiry project as an alternative source of information where students can ask authentic, real-time questions to a professional. Some webinars have a wide range of recommended grade levels, for example, suitable for grades 3-12. As such, the scope and depth of the vocabulary and the phrasing of the verbal presentation may be below the expected ability level of a secondary audience.
