When popular Kit seeks solace following her father’s death in a car accident she sits down at lunch with isolated David, who has Asperger’s syndrome, and they develop an unlikely friendship with unexpected consequences. The once-invisible David is now noticed and his notebook is stolen and posted online, and when Kit asks David for help in dealing with her dad’s accident, he discovers Kit was driving the car and accidentally reveals that fact. This engaging novel for grades 7-10 is told by both characters in alternating chapters, and deals with issues of perception, perspective, grief, loss, love, change, fitting-in, and growth.
